Gambia’s Vice-President Badara Alieu Joof has died of illness in India, President Adama Barrow announced. Joof, 65, had served as vice president since 2022 and was previously Minister of Education. President Barrow expressed his condolences, saying Joof had served his country with distinction and dedication. He praised Joof for his commitment to improving the lives of Gambians, particularly through his work in education. A memorial service will be held in his honor. The vice president departed Gambia approximately three weeks ago to receive medical care.
